Autonomy at TR: How we do our best work.

The team at TR Group testing a new vehicle

We’ve found that in nearly 30 years in the business, our people are, and have always been, our best assets. People who, firstly, have lives to live. This is why our work style puts emphasis on autonomy. We understand that everyone has a life that’s not separate from work – tearing down the idea of “work-life balance”. Work and life shouldn’t be two different scenarios that a person has to balance, but rather integrated.

TR Group is made up of experts, so we encourage our team to be independent but also support them where and when it’s needed. We’ve found that our team thrive most when given the trust to do what they do best. In addition, we don’t disregard the fact that there are other important things in life, such as family, health, etc. Through this work style and good communication, our team gets the flexibility they need to stay on top of their goals and not worry about the typical 9 to 5 workday. That’s not to say we don’t work hard to get the job done and done well, but we also understand this can all be achieved while still having a great life.

This work style has also proven beneficial in recent times during our numerous COVID-19 lockdowns. We continuously support our team by giving them the tools they need to do their job, whether they are in the office or out. The only thing our team is responsible for is to have a desk and a chair, and we will make sure the technology side of things is looked after. Morgan Crump from our People, Care and Development team sees it as; “We understand that lockdowns have been difficult, especially on those with little ones at home, so we are happy to work to the hours that work best for the team – as long as the work is getting done and the team are happy with the support they are giving each other, it’s up to them to frame up their day accordingly. It would be naive of us to think that it’s not difficult to wear different hats (i.e. being a parent, teacher, and a teammate), so we are happy to support flexibility here.”

Ultimately, this work style works because it motivates our team to continuously grow and excel in their roles without anyone micromanaging them. We are proud of how responsible and accountable our experts are, and this is what our customers expect when dealing with any of our team members.
