We’re looking for a Senior Data Engineer to join our IT team in our Auckland branch and play a key role in shaping how we use data across the business.  

The Senior Data Engineer role is responsible for advancing our analytics, reporting and database optimisation capabilities, ensuring data is accurate, accessible, and actionable. This is a broad and varied role where no two days look the same! Working closely with stakeholders, you’ll play a key part in turning information into insights that drive smarter decisions and measurable impact. From database optimisation, building data models and pipelines in Azure, through to designing dashboards in Power BI and SSRS, developing integrations and analysing large datasets to uncover opportunities. The role also provides technical leadership in data engineering, embedding best practices, scalable architectures and self-service frameworks that enable smarter decision-making across the business. 

About the role: 

• Collaborate with stakeholders to turn information into actionable insights that drive business growth. 

• Lead a variety of data and intelligence projects, across multiple complex areas, to include lease and maintenance optimisation. 

• Design, build and optimise Azure-based data environments, integrations, and pipelines. 

• Create and maintain impactful dashboards and reports across tools like Power BI and SSRS. 

• Enhance database performance through optimised SQL queries and stored procedures. 

• Analyse and manipulate data using SQL, Power BI, Python, and R to uncover trends and support decisions. 

• Provide technical leadership in data engineering, ensuring scalable, secure, and sustainable solutions. 

• Mentor and support team members, encouraging collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning. 

• Develop secure, self-service frameworks that empower users with access to reliable data. 

• Document systems and processes, stay ahead of emerging technologies, and contribute to wider IT projects. 

• This role is mainly office based, with the option to work from home 1–2 days a week once you’ve settled in. We value in-person collaboration and a strong team dynamic.

About you: 

• Ideally have 5+ years experience with Microsoft SQL and 3+ years with Azure data components. 

• Familiar with a range of data platforms and tools (e.g. Snowflake, QlikView, SAS, R). Have some experience with Microsoft Dynamics F&O (or a willingness to learn). 

• Strong understanding of data modelling, reporting and analytics. 

• Able to distil complex topics into plain language that is easily understood by a non-technical audience. 

• Comfortable leading workshops with business stakeholders to support strategic planning. 

• Pragmatic, positive and a true self-starter.
